Upgrading to Phonak Lumity hearing aids

I recently updated my audiogram after an 8-year gap and found very minimal changes to my hearing.

I’m considering upgrading my hearing aids from Phonak Naida Paradise to Lumity. Has anyone else made this transition and noticed any significant differences in their hearing experience?

Hi there, yeah good question, I wouldn’t bother personally, but really you’d need to trial and see for yourself, @kevels55 had a good outcome after doing this I believe.

Thank you @tenkan  If you click on the link below @jbender4 I did a fairly extensive review on moving from Naida Paradise 90’s to Naida Lumity 90’s, around November 2023, it’s a long read, but perhaps worth it, if you have the time? I found the overall clarity was improved, Bluetooth connectivity was excellent, it still is… If you are getting on fine with the Paradise Naida’s, I would perhaps hold off till October or November of this year, we might see some sort of Naida Sphere Infinio on the go, and that may be a game changer, the new Naida’s usually turn up every 2 years or so… There is no guarantee that Phonak are even developing a Naida Sphere, but previous iterations have followed suit, so we are ever hopeful  Good Luck, cheers Kev

@kevels55
I just revisited that thread, which was an excellent read.
When I first read it, I only had NHS Nathos Nova (Bolero M70) and recently purchased Audeo Paradise P90-13T with “M” receivers.

Since then, I’ve picked up a pair of Sky Bolero M70 and 3 pairs of Naida SPs with 13s:
Naida M30 SP
Naida M70 SP (Sky)
Naida L90 SP

Initially, I used thin tubes and vented custom slimtips, which were “ok” but lacked clarity. Since then I’ve had some deep custom moulds made. I do direct comparisons and agree that the Lumity has more clarity. It’s a subtle difference, as they sort of sound the same, but my speech recognition (even in Music mode) is much improved.

Thank you @PeterH… Agreed, definitely a noticeable yet subtle difference, I believe it was the first thing I noticed about the Naida Lumity 90 BTE’s, the enhanced clarity, it may be a subtle difference, but in the world of severe/profound, any increase in overall clarity, is most welcome… Cheers Kev

Hi @kevels55,

Thank you for sharing the link. I’ve started reading through it, and I’m finding it very informative and encouraging to learn about your and others’ experiences with the Lumity hearing aids.

I understand that Sphere technology may be available soon, but I’m ordering the Lumity now because my current Paradise hearing aids are four years old. While I have many older backup aids (I’ve been a hearing aid user for 50 years!), these are my first aids with Bluetooth.

Bluetooth streaming has been a game-changer for me. I find myself streaming for probably 50% of my day, especially during conference calls at work. I always get nervous about potential issues with my current aids, as going back to using the headphone jack and trying to get the telecoil working doesn’t even come close to the clarity of streaming.

Therefore, I want to have a backup pair with the same brand and technology. Based on your posts and others’, I believe these may even offer some improvements over my current aids.

Yes, I might miss out on Sphere technology (I typically upgrade every 5-6 years), but I’m willing to wait for the second-generation version. Interestingly, this AI technology seems to focus on improving performance in noisy environments, which has ironically never been a major issue for me (even with my hearing loss). I grew up with analog aids, which likely helped my brain develop better skills in deciphering speech. I also rely on lip-reading, which further assists me.

Thank you again for sharing the link. I’m excited to receive these aids and will be sure to share my experiences.

You are most welcome @jbender4  l use the fitting formula NAL NL2, I believe the new NAL NL3 is on the horizon at some point this year? If you haven’t used NAL NL2 before, it is going to sound slightly brash & louder than normal, it took me approximately 4 weeks to acclimatise to this formula, before I felt comfortable with it, that was with the Naida M70’s around 3 years ago, nowadays, I use no other fitting formula, it may be worth a try for you, it may not? Good Luck with the Naida Lumity’s, hopefully they will work well for you! Cheers Kev

Thanks @kevels55!

I need to revisit my fitting formula in Target. I recall using the Phonak adaptive formula initially with my Paradise hearing aids, but through trial and error, I discovered a more effective algorithm for me(I believe it was DSL?). I plan to explore the NAL NL2 formula once I receive these new devices.
