Starkey Edge AI Experience

I have been wearing the Starkey Edge AI for about two weeks.
My hearing is not like a lot of people.
Everything is is heard with distortion from my left ear so I do not really hear everything clearly.
That being said, I think the most impressive thing about them is the noise reduction.
Example.
Went to the food court in the mall yesterday.
Place was crazy loud.
Used Edge AI. Immediately noticed a difference. Could easily talk to my wife.
There is a PF Changs in the mall.
Ate lunch there. That place is always loud.
Had a group of six next to me. Used Edge AI. Easily talked to my wife.
There is a church I go to that has horrible acoustics. Tried them there. I have trouble with one particular priest. His voice frequency is just hard.
He speaks one hundred miles an hour.
Other priest and deacons I have no real problems with. They really did not help me with him.
Went to a different church today.
Wanted to hear the organ with music mode on. Still didn’t sound right. Just my ears.
The acoustics there are good. No problem with the priest.
Other things.
I have occlusion and booming issues.
I always have them.
I can understand people much better.
I have warble problems. That’s fixable.
I do like them.
Haven’t decided if I’m going to keep them.
Battery is absolutely no problem.
Slept with them.
Had them on 21 hours.
Still working in am.
They charge pretty fast to me.
Of I remember anything I’ll post it.
Ok here’s one.
I can hear sounds I did not know existed.

Thank you for posting this. I am interested in trailing. How do you find the sound quality, especially do you hear a hiss or a rumble in a soft sound environment? That was the problem I had with the Genesis model and wondered if it is in this update.
Do you plan on keeping these? If not, would you share why not?

Anyone else have the Edge AI?
Thank you again

I do not hear a hiss are a rumble.
In a quite environment all I generally hear is my tinnitus.
I may keep them.
I’ll be honest. It’s going to depend on how much they cost.
My audiologist is still learning. So adjustments can be iffy.
The good thing is she works with me. Pretty much whatever I want.
All in all I do like them.

Reading something helped me remember this.
Can’t say great wind noise reduction.
That never bothers me.
It’s better than tinnitus.
Better add streaming.
As far as I can tell it works fine.
I do not really stream.
I do like that I can hear my phone calls in my ear.
I can put the phone in my top pocket upside down and talk.
My wife at least has no trouble hearing me when I do that.

That’s not a problem with the Genesis model. That’s a problem with the way they are tuned/calibrated.

That is certainly possible, but I went to 2 experienced providers and ended up working with Starkey directly for this problem. In total had probably more than 15 adjustments. No one could resolve the issue. Was told it was inherent in the way that Starkey handed soft sound for my hearing loss. By the way, beside the hiss/rumble, I was very impressed with the aids as they had some great features. That is the reason that I wanted feedback on the Edge AI.

Went ahead and bought the Edge AI.
Now the work starts.
Getting them adjusted.

When I ordered the aids my audiologist said a client’s Edge AI connected to and auracast broadcast in an airport.
She claims it’s in many airports.
I don’t think she would lie to me. Never has.
Possible maybe in bigger airports.
I haven’t flown in years so I can’t say yes are no.

I’m trying out the Starkey Genesis AI 20. It has the Edge mode. I have profound hearing loss and they are helping me very much. Love the fact that I can now hear phone conversations very well. I haven’t learned how to use all the features yes but I’m getting there. I’m going to be fitted with ear molds soon. I think that will help me hear better from what I’ve read.

I’m going to try moulds also.
I just worry it will exasperate my distortion in my left ear.

Would you be a candidate for CROS? I have terrible word recognition in my left ear, 24%, and even when I can hear everything sounds like a mistuned radio. Speech is a garbled mess. They told me that amplification in that ear would just amplify garbage, so they fitted me with a CROS.

No I can understand speech at the right volume
It’s just distorted.

Can I ask what you mean exactly by distorted?

Sounds like a broken
speaker.

Thats your ears/nerves. Not the aid. Give it time. Stop fine-tuning. You may have not heard high frequencies sound for some time. It will go away

I have the same problem: the bad ear seems to be very sensitive to loud noises and especially high frequencies sound distorted. It takes a lot of balancing between frequencies to get the right sound…

My distortion is in all frequencies.
I hear the distortion with no aids.
The aids just magnify it.
Especially in my own voice.
I did notice when I trialed the Edge AI that the distortion was less in the music program.

Android or iPhone for calls? Thanks for all the comments as they certainly help me and others.

I use a Google Pixel 6a.

I would ask someone to test how good edge mode is compared to sphere. And how long the battery lasts in edge mode.
