My Costco Jabra EP 20 Feedback Issue With Their Custom Earmolds?
HEARING AID PREP. First of all, I have a moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss. Before getting new Jabra Aids from Costco, I gave them the smart fit programming sheet from my retired audiologist, thinking this would make for a smoother faster transition from my old Resound to the new Jabra brand of aids,. The sound was good except for the feedback. Here are the notes from my old audiologist. The things that made the most difference for your hearing were lessening the compression and raising MPO for your All-Around program. These changes made the biggest difference, to give you a fuller sound and more access to sound—super important for your hearing! STILL EXPERIENCING FEEDBAK IN MY RIGHT AID. On my second appointment to fix a feedback problem on my new Jabra EP 20 hearing aids, Costco did a software adjustment This lessened the loudness AND Frequency of the feedback, but it is still happening in just the right aid When near kitchen cupboards, when walking through doorways, and when in the bathroom. STILL EXPERIENCING DEEP VOICE DISTORTION IN BOTH AIDS. There is still distortion in both the Right and Left aid When I or my wife talk with a loud deep voice. It’s as though the aids are the verge of feedback squeal , but it comes out as a slight distortion like noise! This even happened when I tried my own experiment by lowering the volume twice on the aids! THE EARMOLD VENT SIZE? Since Costco did not seem to know the vent size on my custom earmolds, I made a quick stop at a different audiologist’s office and she said My vent size is less than 0.8. She also advised the aids might need a refit. QUESTION FOR NEXT ADJUSTMENT. This is what I plan on asking on my next appointment with Costco. Do we need to remake the earmolds in order to get a better fit? Do we have the right vent size on the earmold? Is the Smart Fit software in harmony with the type of earmold we are using? Are we using the Smart Fit feedback calibration test after each adjustment? Would lowering the highs help? Would lowering the compression sensitivity help? I am also going to ask them to call the Jabra Helpdesk ahead of time to troubleshoot our problems. Hopefully they can offer the Costco hearing instruments specialist some expert guidance. I am not very confident in Costco’s ability to work with custom earmolds because in my 40 years of getting hearing aids, I do not remember it taking so long to fix a simple feedback problem. I imagine they do a lot better job with their sports lock. WHAT DO YOU HEARING TRACKERS RECOMMEND?
Thanks,
Ziby
Resound right side hearing aid Compression Issue?
I am blind and have had a moderate to severe sensorineural hearing loss for several decades.
In 2020 I got the Resound 9 61 Quatro Rechargeable hearing aids with hard plastic skeletal earmolds The aids are set at a higher MPO in my all around program for a fuller richer sound experience. Being a long time hearing user, that adjustment is very important to me. Now I think there is a compression sensitivity problem in the right aid.**
It usually takes place in combination with certain kinds of loud background noise and loud speaking people. The problem is more noticeable with fans, furnace, and air conditioner turn on. What’s odd is The aids do fine in loud stores and shopping centers.
What do you think the problem is and what adjustment should be done with the Smart Fit software?
