Could anyone provide advice on how I can improve speech recognition using my hearing aid? I have the Phonak Audeo Infiniti sphere. Unfortunately, my job requires frequent travel, making it difficult to find a regular audiologist, especially one who performs REM testing. I’ve been doing my own DIY programming, and an audiologist I saw once suggested some adjustments that might help. He also resolved a persistent hissing sound I experienced when pronouncing ’S’ and ‘Sh’ sounds. My hearing loss is highly non-uniform, which complicates mattersMy hearing loss is highly non-uniform, which complicates matters. Currently, I’m using open vents in both ears, but I’ve been considering changing to custom ear molds. (If I plug my ear with my finger, the sound quality is significantly better.) My hearing loss has been pretty much the same throughout my life. This is due to chronic media otitis, cholesteatoma, and several mastoidectomies (I’ve had both types of mastoidectomy).
Hi there, yeah that’s a bit unusual hearing loss for sure, speech recognition, clarity etc are all the things we want, honestly too many variables as we don’t know the exact set up you have at present, if your using open domes then yes I’d go custom molds especially on your left, if I were you I’d try at least one other Audiology clinic to see if they can set them up better then your DIY project, you’ll need to see one anyway if you decide to get custom molds made so may as well give them the opportunity to help, sorry not much to offer you with your questions, hopefully you’ll get it sorted.
