Like I’ve said before.
I hear it without my aids in.
Almost like I can feel a vibration.
Oops, I bought Oticon Reals in 2023, which is year before last now that it’s 2025. I’m happy with them and generally pleased with how they sound to me. For music listening, mainly in the car, I use a custom music program my audiologist set up because I couldn’t stand the built-in MyMusic program.
The Reals were my first choice and were available with a 312 battery, so I didn’t have to compromise on battery in order to get my preferred aids at that time.
I wear unvented super-soft silicone earmolds made by Microsonic, a third-party earmold company.
There is a proper term for the metallic sound you describe (and very well at that). I don’t remember what it’s called but I think it’s at the threshold of feedback. It might be Ring Modulation, but that’s a guess.
Could also be just “tinny” because you have a lot of high end. The comb filtering you mention tends to suggest otherwise though - meaning the mix of your own voice with the amplified version of same. Maybe a pro can chime in…
I need to go back to square one. I’ll be asking the audiologist how should I be hearing? Let her take it from there.
You can also ask audiologist to add separate spheric in Loud noise option to the phonak phone app that you can activate yourself when needed. Just remember to turn it off when not needed as it drains the battery
I think a one hour adjustment limitatation may not work to your benefit. Find out how much your audioligist will charge for fine tuning after the first fitting. It took me 3 visits and calls directly to Phonak by my audiologist to get the adjustments I needed to understand speech in quiet and noisy settings. Now I LOVE them. Best if luck. They are wirth the money.
I have had Genesis AI Edge for a year. Also one very bad ear and one good. I have a CROS in bad ear so only a Mike on that side. Closed earmold on good ear helps. Edge helps in noisy rooms but yes a tinny sound. Not so bad in regular mode. Will likely switch to Sphere in a couple years as AI seems to be better in noise than Starkey from what I read here.
It’s good to see the experience you and others have had. I’ve worn HA’s for over 20 years. I hope that we as a group can help lead the way to better hearing.
I’m really impressed that Phonak brought out a 5.0 Receiver for my Paradise P90R’s. It is wonderful having good wax guards again. Thanks Phonak for my Power 5.0 Receivers
And I’m really impressed that Phonak replaced my 2 hearing aids and charger. They work much better than the Paradise P90R’s they replaced, and I used for 3 years.
I’m most impressed with the feedback from people here who have the new HA’s. It gives me hope that my next hearing aids will be much better than the last 2 sets of hearing aids.
I spent several days with my schizophrenic brother. I couldn’t understand him most of the time. Every word he speaks is important to me; he’s 70 and we are the last two members of our Family. He’s a kind gentle man, and I’m blessed he’s still alive. He has attempted to take his life 7 times.
Summary. I need hearing aids set up so they work as well as they can be. I’m grateful for progress; I just want to hear.
AI in a couple of years is going to be even more insane and effective than it currently is. It’d be worth reassessing them all at that point I think
