2024 Starkey Genesis Review and Comparison

So, i am new to hearing aides and have the Starkey Genesis 24 AI’s. I concur with the comments that using them for streaming audio and streaming music is terrible. Walking my dog today, the only way i could get both sides to work was holding the phone directly in front of my face. Have done a couple of phone calls thru the HA’s and connection kept cutting in and out. While I agree with the comments “are they hearing aides or bluetooth ear buds” i would argue they were sold to me as both and i paid for both but the music/phone features are worthless IMO. On day 5 of a 60 day trial, and taking notes and focusing more on the HA versus the “extras” that don’t work - but airpods are now in my trade space ($250 versus $3000+…)!

Googled and found this site - glad i got some confirmation the things i was experiencing others have also experienced!

Thanks for all the comments - very helpful!

I agree with you on the Starkey Genesis AI.
I have the Starkey Genesis Edge AI.
I have no problems streaming or phone calls.
I put the phone in my front left pants pocket when streaming while walking.
I do have to hold my phone to speak into the speaker because my phone does not have the new Bluetooth LE.
I generally will put it in my shirt pocket if I have one when speaking on the phone.

As a follow up I did keep the hearing aids and use them as an old school hearing aid.

I do not use them to stream music or phone calls as they simply do not work unless the phone is held in front of me. I will not carry it in my front shirt pocket where it will fall out and I am not wearing a necklace or a front fanny pack as a work around.

If I choose to stream music or calls using airpods I have to disable Bluetooth connection to the aids and establish Bluetooth connectivity to the airpods then store the hearing aids. If someone tries talking to me the Juggling act starts.
The Airpods go out the hearing aids in wait for them to power up and air pods must be stored. Conversation finished ? Hearing aids out and stored airpods back in. P.I.T.A. and simply not worth the bother or puzzled looks while on a walk or out and about.

IN ADDITION to the juggling act of swapping and storing you must also use the phone and manage the Bluetooth connections to swap devices if pairing decides to work.

If you follow that rant then you understand without a fully functioning streaming hearing aid streaming is not practical. In addition if you choose to use airpods it is not as simple as it seems.

I can live without streaming but for some people it is a important feature. It would certainly be nice of it did work without having to hold the phone or find a place above the belt to keep it.

You have an iphone.
I have a Pixel 6a.
Don’t understand.
I thought they worked better with iphone over Android.

The P6a has ASHA, and with android 15 is rock solid for streaming with most any HA made in the last 6 years or so.
I use mine daily with no problem, and the icing on the cake is google just announced 2 more years of software updates for the 6 series!

the “whereas the Starkey Genesis were more of an amplified sound” might be that the frequency response when streaming is lower than usual. This might be at the expense of 50hrs of battery otherwise it could be lower. We would have to dig deeper
